Our mission

Build an app that makes the world more inclusive for everyone.

Feeling safe. Being treated fairly. Helped in times of need. A sense of acceptance or belonging. How well are these fundamentals met where you live?

A person’s answer determines how included one feels in any community. Sadly, inclusion is not as abundant in the real world as we imagine.

In our research among lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex people, people with disabilities, women and other diverse communities we found that going to the wrong place is costly. Hence people often spend more time when looking for services.

In many cases people are trying to avoid discrimination when accessing providers of health, social support, education, housing, legal services and employment in a city. Reducing this problem would help improve the lives of billions.

Knowing if a place is inclusive, safe or accessible can help people make more informed choices about where to spend their time and money. Despite being surrounded by a wealth of information online, finding inclusive places is easier said than done.

Community groups sometimes offer directories of friendly services as a solution. But directories are a mere band-aid for a deeper problem. Growing the supply of inclusive service providers would change the game forever. In order to achieve that, more people need to be engaged in the process.

That is where BE steps in. Our job is three-fold. First, we make life easier for people by organising and filtering information about places in a city using our inclusion algorithm. Second, we encourage awareness and conversations by bringing diverse people and places together using our app. Third, we use our data to motivate businesses and organisations to take concrete steps that help improve the inclusiveness of services and the cities where we live.

Our vision is for diverse groups to be at the frontline in shaping inclusive cities. An essential ingredient to realising this vision is you.

The world will become a more inclusive place only if we work together. Let’s increase the number of places where people feel safe, fairly treated and accepted. Let’s grow more places where we can be ourselves.
